Moscow: Daniil Bisslinger, Vice President of the Global Fact-checking Network (GFCN), has called for international efforts to counter internet manipulation and fake news, highlighting that sanctions-hit Iran and Russia are targets of disinformation campaigns.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Bisslinger, in an interview on the sidelines of the international forum ‘Dialogue on Fake News 3.0,’ held in Moscow, emphasized the importance of uniting experts and organizations to create a platform for global cooperation against propaganda. He noted that both Russia and Iran share common challenges as targets of disinformation campaigns, in addition to facing Western sanctions, which he believes ultimately strengthen the two nations.

Bisslinger further elaborated on the potential for Moscow and Tehran to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation. He highlighted the ‘Dialogue on Fake News,’ co-organized by the GFCN, which brought together experts from over 80 countries to discuss combating misinformation and enhancing media literacy.

Expressing optimism, Bisslinger shared his interactions with Iranian experts, recognizing the interest and potential for collaboration in combating fake news. He announced the Forum’s readiness to work with Iran, particularly at the expert level, to tackle misinformation.

Highlighting the necessity of exchanging information and experiences, Bisslinger pointed out that Iran, like Russia, may face issues such as scam calls, Internet fraud, and false information on digital platforms, which can be addressed through shared experiences.

The Global Fact-checking Network was established by Russia’s TASS news agency, ANPO ‘Dialog Regions,’ and ‘New Media School’ to verify content accuracy in media and virtual networks, coordinating efforts to combat misinformation globally.
