Tehran:The shortlist for the second edition of the Rasul Medal has been revealed, with 24 finalists selected across six scientific fields. The winners will be officially announced in November.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the initial list of nominees comprised over 100,000 candidates in seven categories, including Life and Medical Science and Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, and Nanotechnology. The Scientific Committee of the Rasul Medal detailed that after several meetings, the Mustafa Prize Scientific Committee finalized the shortlist. This shortlist consists of four finalists each in Engineering, Basic Sciences, Mathematics, and Computer Science, and eight in Life and Medical Sciences and Technology.
The winners of the Medal will be celebrated at a ceremony in December. The Rasul Medal's secretariat had issued a call last December for scientists under the age of 40 residing in Islamic countries, inviting scientific organizations or individuals to nominate candidates by January 20, 2026.
Established through the endowments of several Mustafa Prize laureates, the Rasul Medal was first held alongside the sixth edition of the Mustafa Prize in 2025. It is awarded for impactful works and requires candidates to be nominated by a third-party scientific or technological body, such as universities, research centers, reputable scientific associations, or science and technology parks.
Candidates must be under 40 years old at the end of the year the Medal is awarded. Winners receive a medal, a certificate, and a $10,000 cash prize in each category. The Medal aims to promote scientific and technological breakthroughs by young scientists in the Islamic world and recognize their influential achievements.
