Finland Ready to Cooperate with Iran on Refugee Issues: Envoy.


Tehran: Finnish Ambassador to Tehran Yani Johannes Rayana has announced his country’s readiness to continue cooperation with Iran on issues related to refugees, emphasizing the importance of establishing positive bilateral relations to devise appropriate solutions to the problem. Rayana highlighted the need for collaboration during a meeting with Nader Yarahmadi, Head of the Iranian Interior Ministry’s Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrant Affairs.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Finland was the first country to accept Afghan refugees from Iran, and this process is expected to accelerate in the coming year. Rayana’s remarks underscore Finland’s commitment to addressing the refugee crisis in collaboration with Iran, recognizing the shared responsibility in managing the influx of Afghan refugees.

Yarahmadi noted that the issue of Afghan refugees extends beyond Iran, as the country serves as a primary destination for those fleeing conflict. He emphasized that Iran is dealing with a global issue an
d expressed hope that the Finnish embassy would provide accurate observations and analyses of the situation. This information would be crucial for other countries in understanding the challenges faced by nearly 6 million Afghan refugees residing in Iran.
