Genocide in Gaza is Ongoing: UN Special Rapporteur

Tehran: UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Francesca Albanese, has said the genocide in the Gaza Strip is ongoing and has not ended.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Albanese stated that the Palestinian people are more aware than anyone that the situation on the ground remains unchanged and that most countries around the world have not taken effective action to stop the genocide and, instead, have provided the Israeli regime with political, economic, and military support.

Albanese also criticized Western media outlets, saying they have largely ignored realities on the ground and promoted the regime's narrative of the war. She stressed that the international community must act urgently to ensure justice for the Palestinian people, adding that Palestine will ultimately be free and the Palestinian people will achieve freedom.

The Israeli regime launched its war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, with declared goals of eliminating Hamas and securing the return of Israeli captives. The regime failed to achieve these objectives and later agreed to a prisoner swap deal with Hamas.

Hamas announced on October 17, 2025, that an agreement had been reached to end the war and exchange prisoners. The regime's armed forces confirmed the implementation of a ceasefire the following day, though it continues to obstruct its full execution.
