Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has emphasized that Sacred Defense Week serves as more than just a remembrance of a past conflict; it is a proven experience in preserving Iran's sovereignty and national dignity against enemy hostilities. Speaking in parliament on Sunday, ahead of the anniversary of Iraq's offensive against Iran on September 22, 1980, Ghalibaf highlighted how the eight-year war transformed collective resistance into a catalyst for self-reliance and autonomy.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf remarked that while past battles were limited to geographical boundaries, modern defense strategies have become more expansive and profound. He described the onset of hostilities on September 22 as an act of 'unfair aggression' against Iran, which had recently shaken off the Pahlavi regime. He noted that the conflict failed to subdue the nation.

The Parliament speaker underscored that the Iranian people's resilience during the eight-year Sacred Defense period significantly contributed to advancing the country's self-reliance and foundational independence over the last forty years. This resistance, he explained, has propelled Iran closer to the objectives of the Islamic Revolution.

Ghalibaf further stated that today's continuation of this historical experience assures Iran's security and plays a crucial role in establishing a new regional and global order that could lead to economic and strategic advancements. He expressed confidence that the people's historical resistance would elevate Iran to a greater level of power and prosperity.

He also recalled that the war, initiated by former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein on September 22, 1980, was supported by the United States and European powers and came less than two years after the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
