Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has mocked the US over the rise in global oil prices above $100 a barrel, stating that Washington has ended up punishing itself instead of Iran. In a post on X, Ghalibaf shared an image and wrote: 'They wanted to punish Iran. Punished themselves with triple-digit oil instead. 10/10 strategy.'

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the post was accompanied by an image showing how the United States' decision to impose a naval blockade on Iran to halt its oil exports has led to a surge in global oil prices, surpassing $100 a barrel, and gasoline prices exceeding $7 a gallon in the US. Ghalibaf utilized a popular internet meme to criticize what he depicted as a flawed strategy by Washington.
