Doha: Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs announced that discussions in Doha, mediated by Qatari and Pakistani officials, concentrated on US breaches of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), especially concerning the ceasefire in Lebanon. A working group has been established to oversee the agreement's implementation. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi concluded a round of trilateral talks in the Qatari capital on Wednesday. He held meetings with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, alongside Pakistani mediators. The discussions involved delegations from Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan, convening for two separate meetings. Gharibabadi stated that the inaugural meeting of the monitoring group, which is responsible for supervising the MoU's execution, included senior negotiators from the three nations. The Iranian delegation highlighted US violations of its obligations under Clause 1 of the MoU related to t he cessation of hostilities in Lebanon. They also addressed reports of US activities to bolster equipment and forces in the region, as well as certain statements by US officials perceived as threatening and interventionist. The Iranian representatives underscored the importance of viewing the MoU's commitments as an integrated whole. It was agreed that a direct communication channel for the monitoring group would be established by the following day. This channel aims to ensure that any deficiencies in the MoU's implementation would be reported, deliberated, and resolved in a formal and documented process. Additionally, Gharibabadi engaged in separate discussions with Qatari officials, including representatives from the Central Bank, regarding the release of a portion of Iran's frozen assets. He noted that during these meetings, issues concerning the expenditure of an initial $6 billion were examined. It was agreed that, based on Iran's stated requirements, the purchase of necessary goods would be facilitate d and delivered to Iran.
