Gaza city: The Palestinian resistance movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad have strongly denounced an Israeli bill that approves the execution of Palestinian prisoners, urging immediate international intervention to halt the legislation.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hamas released a statement on Monday asserting that the approval of the draft law to execute Palestinian prisoners reflects the harsh and oppressive nature of the Zionist occupying regime. They emphasized that this legislation highlights ongoing violations of international laws, particularly international humanitarian law and the Third Geneva Convention.
Hamas also called for the formation of international committees to inspect Israeli detention centers, evaluate the conditions of Palestinian prisoners, and reveal the actions being carried out under the Israeli authorities’ supervision.
Similarly, Islamic Jihad expressed concern that the bill endangers thousands of Palestinians, vowing to resist the oppressive and aggressive policies imposed by the Zionist regime against Palestinian prisoners and the broader Palestinian community.
The Israeli Knesset’s National Security Committee is advancing the bill, which seeks to introduce the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners. Reports from Hebrew-language media indicate that the bill may have its first reading in the Knesset plenum as early as Wednesday, stipulating that courts can impose the death penalty on individuals who have committed a nationalistically motivated murder of an Israeli citizen.
