Tehran: Iran's reaction to the violation of the ceasefire by the United States and its attacks on Iranian ships and port facilities was a heavy slap on its face, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the remarks in a statement published on Friday. The statement strongly condemned the aggressive action of the US terrorist army against two oil tankers belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran near the port of Jask and the Strait of Hormuz, and the attacks carried out against several points in the coastal areas overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, which took place in the late hours of Thursday and the early hours of Friday (May 7-8).
These attacks were met with a strong response and a heavy slap from the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the statement read, adding that the aggressors failed to achieve their illegitimate goals. It also said that such acts of aggression and provocation are not only a clear violation of the ceasefire agreed upon on April 8, 2026, but also constitute a breach of Paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the UN Charter and an act of aggression under the UN General Assembly's Resolution on the Definition of Aggression (Resolution 3314).
The continuation of aggressive actions, coupled with contradictory behavior, rhetoric, and blame-game of senior U.S. officials, proves their desperation and confusion, as well as their inability to recognize the problem and find a reasonable solution to get out of the self-made quagmire, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote.
While emphasizing the determination of the powerful armed forces of Iran to defend the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of Iran against any aggression and move, the Ministry drew the attention of the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary-General to their responsibilities in relation to the protection of international peace and security under the UN Charter, and to the dangerous consequences of the organization's indifference before the rebellion and lawlessness of the US ruling body.
It has now become clear that it is a mistake to link the security and stability of the region to the presence of the United States and other foreign actors, and that the US military presence in the Persian Gulf region and the Sea of Oman has not contributed to the stability and security of the region, but it has been the root cause of insecurity with regional and global consequences, the statement continued.
Emphasizing its adherence to the policy of good neighborliness and respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all countries in the region, the Islamic Republic of Iran once again invites the governments of the region to work responsibly and learn from recent experiences, and to create an endogenous security mechanism based on collective trust and free from interference by extra-regional actors, the statement concluded.
