Tehran:Indonesia has expressed its support for Iran amid ongoing hostilities, with Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Rolliansyah (Roy) Soemirat, calling for an end to the conflict.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Soemirat addressed a ceremony at the University of Tehran, reaffirming the support of the Indonesian government and its people for Iran. He expressed hope that the war would soon conclude, allowing for the resumption of normal life and activities.
The ambassador highlighted recent events in West Asia, emphasizing the fragile nature of peace and stability in the region, and the far-reaching consequences of such instability. He reiterated Indonesia's opposition to the use of force and actions undermining national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Soemirat urged all involved parties to exercise maximum restraint and to prevent further escalation, advocating for dialogue and diplomacy as the path to lasting peace. He stressed that military means cannot achieve enduring peace and underscored the importance of consistent application of international law.
Addressing the issue of Palestine, Soemirat described it as a critical test of the international system's credibility. He reaffirmed Indonesia's support for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the two-state solution, international law, and relevant United Nations resolutions.
He further emphasized the necessity of multilateralism and called for enhanced international cooperation and more effective global institutions. As the United Nations celebrates its 81st anniversary, Soemirat urged the organization to focus on delivering tangible results and upholding the rule of law, rather than permitting powerful nations to act without restraint.
