Tehran: Sadeq Beit Sayah, an Iranian para javelin thrower, has been allowed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to take part in future international games. The IPC's decision comes after Iran's National Paralympic Committee pursued the matter, as reported by IRNA on Sunday. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, despite Beit Sayah's record throw of 47.64 meters at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, held between August 28 and September 8, he was disqualified for displaying a religious flag during his victory celebration. Consequently, his gold medal was awarded to his Indian rival, whose throw measured 47.32 meters. Beit Sayah explained to reporters that he had previously displayed a similar religious flag during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games without any repercussions. He emphasized that the flag represented his genuine religious beliefs and was not intended to offend any individual or group. The decision to disqualify Beit Sayah sparked criticism from social media users and notable politic al and cultural figures in Iran. They argued that the athlete should be allowed to express his religious fervor after securing the gold medal.
