Iran Accuses Aggressors of Threatening Maritime Security in Persian Gulf

New York:Iran's Ambassador and Chargé d'Affaires to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, has asserted that aggressors are directly responsible for any disruptions in maritime navigation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. He made these statements during a UN Security Council meeting, emphasizing the danger posed by these actions to maritime safety in the region.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Darzi highlighted that Iran has consistently maintained maritime security and freedom of navigation in the area, adhering to its responsibilities as a coastal state. He criticized attempts to blame Iran for the disruptions, describing such efforts as unfounded and lacking credibility.

During his speech, Darzi outlined incidents involving the United States, accusing it of aggressive actions against Iran since February 2026. These include the sinking of the Iranian frigate Dena by a U.S. submarine, attacks on Iranian commercial and search-and-rescue vessels, and the imposition of a maritime blockade. He declared these actions as violations of Iran's sovereignty and a breach of the UN Charter.

Darzi called for accountability for the violations and the harm caused to civilians, urging the UN Security Council to pressure the United States to cease its unlawful actions. He affirmed that Iran would seek all legal avenues to hold those responsible accountable.
