Tehran:Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has criticized the UN special rapporteur's latest report on human rights in Iran, accusing it of whitewashing crimes committed by the United States and Israel.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei expressed his criticism in a post on X, stating that the politically motivated mandate imposed on the Human Rights Council by the UK exploits the Special Rapporteurship to blame Iran for crimes committed by the US and Israel. He described this as a deliberate attempt to whitewash aggression, atrocities, and unilateral coercive measures, calling the approach misleading and disingenuous.
The report in question, submitted to the UN General Assembly and published on the UN website on October 28, was authored by Mai Sato, the special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran. It claims that US-Israeli military strikes have exacerbated what Sato describes as 'domestic repression' in Iran. The report covers the period from February to August 2026.
