Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has criticized the United States for allegedly violating a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington, asserting that it is the US, not Iran, responsible for the agreement's current crisis.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei highlighted the US's alleged breach of commitments during his weekly press briefing, focusing on recent US military actions that defy the MoU and international law. He emphasized that Iran has consistently adhered to its obligations and entered negotiations in good faith, with the interests of the Iranian nation at heart.

Baqaei accused the US of impatience in treaty violations, claiming Washington reneged on its promises outlined in Paragraph 5 of the MoU concerning Iran's obligations in the Strait of Hormuz. He reinforced Iran's commitment to the 14-point memorandum, provided the US adheres to its responsibilities.

Baqaei also refuted claims by former US President Trump regarding Iran's negotiations with Oman, asserting that discussions were limited to the Strait of Hormuz, contrary to Trump's statements about broader agreements on nuclear issues.

During the briefing, Baqaei addressed the recent historic funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing the global outpouring of grief and solidarity. He also pledged Iran's commitment to seeking justice for the martyred Leader and other victims of US and Israeli aggression, emphasizing the use of international legal mechanisms.

In response to questions about European countries' anti-Iran stance, Baqaei criticized the European Troika for their subservience to the US and failure to play a constructive role in the region. He reiterated Iran's stance against US and Israeli exploitation of the Strait of Hormuz, citing Clause 5 of the MoU as a protective measure for Iran's national security.

Baqaei clarified that Iran's military actions were defensive and targeted US facilities used against Iran. He urged regional nations to prevent their territories from being used for aggression against Iran, warning that Iran would defend itself if necessary.

The spokesperson also commented on internal rifts within US foreign policy, pointing to vacillating statements from the Trump administration as evidence. He noted the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, asserting that his absence would not be mourned by those opposed to his aggressive policies.

Baqaei concluded by emphasizing the need for a regional security mechanism free from foreign interference and reaffirmed Iran's commitment to safeguarding national interests. He also defended Hezbollah's right to arms, asserting the Lebanese people's authority to decide on disarmament matters.
