Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has declared that the peoples of Iran and Iraq are determined to resist external influences, asserting that their destinies will not be dictated by Western powers.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf made these remarks during a ceremony in Karbala, commemorating the 40th day since the burial of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. He extended warm greetings from the Iranian leadership and people to the Iraqi nation, acknowledging their historic participation in the funeral procession for the late leader. Ghalibaf highlighted the resilience and unity between the two nations, noting that efforts by adversaries to drive them apart had only strengthened their bond.

The deep-rooted relationship between Iran and Iraq, based on shared history, geography, and religious beliefs, was emphasized as a foundation for their collaboration. Ghalibaf underscored that their mutual resistance to external domination has further solidified their partnership. He articulated that the histories of both nations would reflect their refusal to become subservient to Western narratives.

Ghalibaf underscored that his visit to Iraq was aimed at fostering concrete progress in enhancing security, reducing foreign interference, and initiating projects beneficial to both countries. He reiterated the enduring friendship and brotherhood between Iran and Iraq, stating that their unity remains their greatest strength.

During his visit, Ghalibaf led a high-level parliamentary delegation to Baghdad for discussions with Iraqi officials. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, ensuring border security, combating terrorism, fostering economic cooperation, and addressing regional developments.
