Tehran: Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the new economic sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran, describing the action as an instance of 'economic terrorism' and 'crimes against humanity.'

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement in response to the new economic and trade sanctions against the Iranian people by the United States, coinciding with the anniversary of the August 19, 1953 coup. The statement emphasized that such actions are another indication of the continued hostility and animosity by US policymakers toward the Iranian people, reflecting the anti-human, lawless, and hegemonic nature of the US ruling establishment.

The statement further elaborated that US economic sanctions against Iran target the fundamental human rights of every Iranian citizen, constituting 'economic terrorism' and 'crimes against humanity.' It argued that those who order and implement these sanctions deserve to be tried and punished for committing such acts.

The sanctions come after the wars imposed by US-Israeli regimes against Iran over the past year and a half, which failed to achieve their objectives of forcing the Iranian people to surrender to their ambitions. The Ministry stated that these sanctions would only add to the list of crimes committed by the United States against Iran, having minimal effect on the determination of Iranians to safeguard their independence, dignity, and national sovereignty.

The statement drew parallels between economic sanctions and military aggression, claiming that the US's reliance on these approaches threatens global peace and security and contributes to moral decline. It urged governments that believe in the principles of the UN Charter to not remain indifferent to the US's lawlessness and belligerence toward international norms.

Finally, the statement criticized the US for making a grand announcement of new sanctions, viewing it as an explicit admission of crimes against humanity. It warned that repeating this failed policy would only lead to repeated failures and disgrace for its designers. The Ministry reaffirmed Iran's resolve to defend its national interests and confront US aggression using all available means and capabilities.
