Iran and Iraq Urge Immediate Measures to Alleviate Gaza Crisis

Jeddah: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, have emphasized the necessity for immediate and practical measures by Islamic and Arab nations to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during a meeting on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) extraordinary session in Jeddah, both ministers condemned the actions of the Israeli regime, which have led to the deprivation of Gaza’s population of essential resources such as food, water, and medicine. They highlighted the critical need to break the blockade, facilitate humanitarian aid, stop the ongoing genocide, and hold those responsible accountable.

The discussions also included a review of bilateral relations between Iran and Iraq, with both ministers reaffirming their dedication to enhancing cooperation in political and economic areas. They stressed the importance of implementing existing bilateral agreements, particularly the security memorandum of understanding and the completion of the Shalamcheh-Basra railway project.

Araghchi conveyed his appreciation to the Iraqi government and its people for their hospitality towards Arbaeen pilgrims, describing the annual event as a demonstration of solidarity and the resilience of Shia communities worldwide.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Jeddah on Sunday leading a diplomatic delegation to participate in the OIC’s emergency meeting. The session is focused on addressing the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, coordinating immediate relief efforts, and examining the legal and political ramifications of Israel’s attempts to establish a permanent occupation of the territory.
