Iran and Oman Aim to Enhance Marine and Health Tourism Cooperation

Riyadh: Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Reza Salehi-Amiri and Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi have discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in tourism. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 26th General Assembly of the UN Tourism in Riyadh, focusing on economic, tourism, and cultural diplomacy.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Salehi-Amiri highlighted Iran’s macro policies regarding the blue economy and stressed the importance of regional cooperation in the Persian Gulf. He stated that marine tourism development could facilitate cultural and economic interactions and strengthen human connections. Salehi-Amiri mentioned a recent meeting of coastal province governors aimed at developing a national plan for marine tourism, suggesting that Iran-Oman collaboration could become a regional model.

The Iranian minister proposed increasing direct flights between Tehran and Muscat, organizing joint cultural events, and holding tourism exhibitions to showcase the potential of both nations. He also highlighted Iran’s capabilities in health tourism, citing the country’s extensive network of hospitals and medical professionals, and invited Al Mahrouqi to the Tehran International Tourism Exhibition in February.

Al Mahrouqi expressed satisfaction in meeting his Iranian counterpart, describing Iran as a “strategic and historical partner” and a source of regional stability. He praised the proposals by Salehi-Amiri and affirmed Oman’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Iran based on mutual respect. Al Mahrouqi supported the idea of marine tourism, noting Oman’s numerous ports and seas, and expressed readiness to sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran to develop sea tourism. He also recognized Iran’s potential in historical and natural tourism, in addition to health services.
