Iran and Pakistan Aim for $10 Billion Annual Trade Target

Tehran: Iran and Pakistan have set an ambitious target to boost their bilateral trade exchanges to $10 billion annually. Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Atabak announced this goal during a meeting with Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan in Tehran. The two countries are focused on enhancing their economic, political, and cultural relations, recognizing the substantial economic and human potential they possess.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, this trade target is part of a broader strategy to strengthen ties between the neighboring nations. The Iranian minister highlighted the historical and brotherly relations shared by Tehran and Islamabad, noting Pakistan’s support for Iran amid conflicts with Israel earlier this year. He emphasized the positive impact these relations have on fostering a policy of good neighborliness between the two governments.

During the meeting, Atabak expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the recent floods in Pakistan and reiterated Iran’s readiness to support its neighbors during challenging times. The visit by Pakistan’s commerce minister and his delegation to Tehran was primarily for the Joint Commission for Iran-Pakistan Cooperation meeting, which is focusing on various issues, including an agreement on essential goods important to both countries.

The Iranian minister also mentioned the potential resolution of barter issues between Iran and Pakistan, which could significantly advance their economic relationship. Furthermore, Atabak discussed the creation of a joint Iran-Pakistan company with investments from the central banks of both countries, considering it a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral ties.
