Muscat: The fourth round of nuclear talks between Iran and the United States has concluded in Muscat, with Iran indicating that a new round will be organized by Omani mediators. According to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty, Iranian Foreign Minister spokesman Esmail Baqaei wrote on X that the discussions on May 11 were "difficult but useful" in aiding a better understanding of each other's positions and in finding reasonable and realistic solutions to their disagreements. He further noted that the "next round will be coordinated and announced by Oman." Despite the efforts, there remains a possibility of exploring alternative approaches if the talks do not yield positive results, as emphasized by US officials. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Tehran's chief negotiator, has maintained that Iran's nuclear enrichment is "nonnegotiable" and has dismissed the idea of dismantling the program. Araqchi stated that a deal with the United States is possible if Washington's goal is to prevent Iran from acquirin g nuclear weapons. However, he stressed that Iran will not relinquish its nuclear rights. US President Donald Trump has highlighted the potential for military action should diplomatic negotiations fail, with Israel potentially participating in strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities. In response, Iran has pledged to retaliate against any aggression and has recently demonstrated its military capabilities, including unveiling a new missile and an underground drone base. Meanwhile, the United States has increased its military presence in the region. In March, at least six B-2 bombers were deployed to Diego Garcia, a US-British military base in the Indian Ocean. Additionally, the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier has joined the USS Harry S. Truman in the area, further heightening tensions.
