Tehran: Iranian Army Commander Major General Amir Hatami has described air defense as a symbol of Iran's defensive power and self-reliance, saying recent wars have once again demonstrated its vital and strategic importance in securing the country and protecting its airspace.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a message marking the National Air Defense Day and the anniversary of the establishment of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Headquarters, Major General Hatami congratulated Brigadier General Alireza Elhami, commander of the headquarters and the Army's Air Defense Force, as well as its commanders, personnel, and families of martyred servicemen.
Hatami said the establishment of the joint air defense headquarters reflected the strategic foresight of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing the move as a national defense priority that strengthened coordination and integration among the Armed Forces' air defense capabilities. He noted that air defense forces played an effective role on the front lines during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, demonstrating resistance and sacrifice in defending the country.
According to Hatami, air defense has subsequently advanced toward self-sufficiency, indigenous development, and modernization of its systems by relying on the expertise and capabilities of young Iranian specialists. The Army chief stressed that the experience of recent imposed wars had once again highlighted the critical role of air defense in ensuring national security and safeguarding Iran's airspace.
He said the use of advanced domestically developed equipment and systems, combined with the knowledge, faith, and round-the-clock readiness of air defense personnel, now represents a manifestation of Iran's defensive strength and self-reliance in protecting its skies. Hatami also paid tribute to air defense personnel who made sacrifices in defending Iran, particularly those who remained at their posts until their final moments and gave their lives for the nation's security and dignity.
He also prayed to Almighty God for the continued success of the commander, as well as all the dedicated commanders and personnel of the Air Defense Force, in advancing this proud path and fulfilling the guidance and directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
