Tehran: Mahmoud Vaezi, a senior politician and deputy of the Moderation and Development Party, has criticized the United States for breaching promises and agreements, citing this as a reason for Iran to assume full control over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in an interview on Sunday, Vaezi discussed several issues related to the joint US-Israeli military actions, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic had consistently warned that any aggressive moves by adversaries would have regional repercussions. He claimed that the US and the Zionist regime intended to exploit Iranian oil resources through military aggression or "regime change" efforts, but Iran's people and armed forces strongly resisted, forcing the aggressors to seek a ceasefire, similar to the outcome of the 12-day imposed war last year.
Vaezi asserted that Iran emerged victorious on the battlefield and is poised to succeed in diplomatic arenas as well, backed by the comprehensive support of its citizens, officials, and political and defense institutions. As a former Minister of Communications and Information Technology, he evaluated the US naval blockade, stating that the US's failure to honor its commitments under Iran's proposal led the Iranian armed forces to take full control of the Strait of Hormuz.
He highlighted Iran's resilience over an extended period, despite two wars imposed by the US and the Zionist regime, and noted that Iran introduced a 10-point plan facilitating negotiations in Pakistan. Vaezi mentioned the Islamabad talks, which concluded without resolution due to excessive American demands, emphasizing the long-standing, 47-year hostility between Iran and the US.
Vaezi praised the Iranian public's street demonstrations, affirming their dedication to the Islamic Republic and their readiness to defend the nation. He also lauded President Masoud Pezeshkian's administration for its effective management during the war, ensuring a steady supply of goods and essentials, including fuel, which he deemed commendable.
