Yerevan: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has confirmed that Iran, China, and Russia are united in their stance on the expiration of Resolution 2231, emphasizing that it should conclude as scheduled. Gharibabadi’s remarks came following consultative meetings with diplomats from China and Russia concerning the snapback mechanism in the 2015 nuclear deal.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi emphasized that the three nations assert that the European countries involved in the deal do not possess the legal authority to initiate the snapback mechanism. The discussions with senior Russian and Chinese diplomats in Tehran focused on joint strategies to address what they perceive as the destructive approach taken by the three European governments towards the resolution.

In a post on his X account, Gharibabadi detailed his engagement with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and the Charg© d’affaires of the Russian Federation, highlighting the consensus among the three countries to resist the renewal of Security Council resolutions. The deputy foreign minister reiterated the shared belief that Resolution 2231 should naturally expire, and any attempt to trigger the snapback mechanism is not legally justified.
