Tehran: Iran's High Council for Human Rights (HCHR) has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli regime's ongoing airstrikes and shelling targeting residential areas in Lebanon, citing severe human rights violations. The council's statement highlights the grave impact of these attacks, which have resulted in numerous civilian casualties, including women and children, and calls for international intervention.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the HCHR emphasized that the repeated assaults on civilians represent a direct breach of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, security, and human dignity. These actions, the council argues, flagrantly violate international humanitarian law by failing to distinguish between military and civilian targets, and by disregarding the principle of proportionality in armed conflict.

The statement further warns of a burgeoning cycle of impunity due to the absence of effective accountability mechanisms. The council criticizes the double standards often applied in addressing human rights violations, stressing that the value of Lebanese civilian lives should not be compromised based on nationality, geography, or political considerations. The HCHR argues that silence in the face of these atrocities undermines the credibility of international human rights systems.

The council also expressed disappointment with the inaction of international human rights bodies, particularly the UN Security Council, which it claims has emboldened the Israeli regime to continue its violations. The HCHR urged these organizations, including the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, to abandon selective and political approaches, and instead work towards halting the attacks, protecting Lebanese civilians, and ensuring accountability for the crimes committed.
