New York: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has raised serious concerns over Israel's expansionist activities and settlement construction on Palestinian territories, stating these actions violate international law and United Nations resolutions. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani addressed the UN Fourth Committee during a session focused on Israeli practices affecting Palestinian rights. He emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran's alarm over Israel's ongoing occupation and expansionist policies initiated decades ago. Iravani described these actions as aggressive and illegal, urging the international community to hold Israel accountable for its violent practices against Palestinians and other regional nations, as well as its disregard for international organizations like the United Nations. Iravani condemned the Israeli military's actions, asserting that they have resulted in severe violence against Palestinian civilians, including geno cide-like conditions in Gaza, where advanced weaponry has been used against a largely civilian population. The Iranian envoy claimed that over forty-four thousand Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed, with many more injured or trapped under rubble. He also highlighted the destructive impact on Gaza's civilian infrastructure. The Iranian representative criticized the impunity Israel allegedly enjoys, bolstered by support from its allies, which he argued has led to further aggression into Lebanon and attacks on UN peacekeepers. He called for the international community to hold Israel accountable for these actions, referencing the International Court of Justice's opinion requiring Israel to cease its unlawful activities in occupied Palestinian territories. Furthermore, Iravani underscored Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2334 (2016), which state the illegality of Israeli settlements and demand an immediate cessation of such activities. He expressed frustration over the continued destruction of Palestinian homes and displacement of people, urging the UN to address the Palestinian crisis by achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating reconstruction efforts. Iran remains committed to supporting the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and calls for Palestine's full UN membership. Iravani also highlighted Iran's condemnation of Israeli actions in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, reiterating the region's status as part of Syria and denouncing Israel's imposition of its laws there. The Iranian envoy concluded by urging UN members to take collective measures against Israel's occupational policies, emphasizing the need to fulfill obligations under the UN Charter to ensure peace and resolve ongoing conflicts.
