Tehran: Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri has announced that Iran is in the process of constructing a border wall along its eastern frontier to enhance security measures. Major General Baqeri made this announcement during a recent visit to Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province, where he inspected military forces stationed in the region and assessed the progress of the border fortification efforts.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the initiative involves significant involvement from various military branches, including the Army, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the Police Command, highlighting the strategic importance of this region for Iran's Chief of Staff. General Sadegh Nouri, deputy commander of the Northeast Regional Headquarters of the Army's Ground Forces, indicated that the border wall between Iran and Afghanistan has reached 81 kilometers in Razavi Khorasan Province as of Saturday.

In an interview with IRNA, Nouri elaborated that the construction project includes the use of prefabricated concrete walls. Over the past two years, the first phase of the project has seen 120 kilometers completed. More than 22 kilometers of these concrete walls have been built, and agreements have been made with 16 companies to accelerate the construction process.

The entire wall project is planned to span 953 kilometers, with over 300 kilometers currently under construction in Razavi Khorasan Province as part of the first phase. Nouri also noted a significant reduction in the unauthorized entry of Afghan migrants into Iran since the implementation of the border wall project.
