Baqaei's statement highlights the tension between Iran and the international community concerning nuclear activities. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei questioned the apparent inaction of IAEA chief Rafael Grossi in a message posted on his social media account, criticizing the US for targeting sites under IAEA safeguards and accusing the Agency of failing to uphold its norms and regulations. Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are fully declared under its safeguards obligations and views the US actions as violations of United Nations Charter principles, international law, and relevant IAEA and UN Security Council resolutions. Baqaei also addressed recent claims by former US President Donald Trump regarding a purported nuclear site at Kolang Mountain, dismissing them as baseless and labeling the US focus on the area as a pretext for aggression and sabotage. He reiterated the steadfastness of the Iranian people in resisting US hostility and defending the nation's sovereignty and security. In his message, Baqaei took a direct jab at Grossi, questioning his whereabouts and reminding that Grossi is a candidate for the UN Secretary-General position.
