New York: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has labeled the United States' use of its veto power in the UN Security Council as "shameful." The veto blocked a draft resolution proposed by the 10 non-permanent members of the Security Council, which aimed to establish an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Iravani urged the Security Council to take decisive action to end what he described as the "immunity of the Israeli regime." According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani addressed the Security Council in New York, expressing disappointment over the U.S.'s unconditional support for Israel, which he claims perpetuates the Israeli regime's immunity. He criticized the Security Council's inaction, which he believes is evidenced by the U.S. veto, and called for the Council to fulfill its Charter-based mandate to hold Israel accountable for its actions. Iravani's statement emphasized the dire situation in Syria, exacerbated by Israel's increasing violence and a ggression. He accused Israel of systematically targeting civilian infrastructure in Syria and of coordinating with terrorist groups. The ambassador declared that such actions violate Syria's sovereignty and international law and underscored the need for the Security Council to intervene. He further criticized the U.S. and its allies for imposing unilateral sanctions on Syria, which he argues are used as a tool for collective punishment. Iravani also condemned the politicization of humanitarian aid by Western countries, which he believes has prolonged the conflict and worsened the suffering of the Syrian people. The ambassador highlighted the humanitarian crisis resulting from Israel's strikes on border crossings between Syria and Lebanon, which have displaced over 500,000 people. He called for immediate and substantial international support to address the urgent needs of refugees and commended the Syrian government for its efforts to assist those displaced. Iravani reiterated Iran's commitment to a politic al resolution of the Syrian crisis, stressing that any sustainable solution must respect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He voiced support for the resumption of the Constitutional Committee meetings and welcomed continued engagement with Syrian authorities as vital steps toward peace. The ambassador concluded by urging the international community to support Syria in rebuilding its infrastructure and providing conditions for the safe return of refugees, emphasizing that the Syrian people deserve peace and the opportunity to rebuild their nation free from external interference.
