TEHRAN: Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei has lashed out at the UK for its denial of the genocide in Gaza, saying that the 'outrageous' stance is in line with London's support to the apartheid Israeli regime. The spokesman made the comment on Sunday, three days after the UN Special Committee found that the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza is 'consistent with the characteristics of genocide, with mass civilian casualties and life-threatening conditions intentionally imposed on Palestinians there.' According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baghaei further criticized the UK's foreign secretary, stating that the denial of genocide aligns with the UK government's policy of providing lethal weapons and political support to Israel, which he described as a "genocidal apartheid regime." Baghaei argued that this makes the UK complicit in the ongoing violence and holds it accountable for not adhering to international legal obligations under the Genocide Convention. Baghaei expressed concern over what he per ceives as a resurgence of colonial mentality in Europe, manifested through systemic anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia. He emphasized that the UK's position is not only appalling but also dangerous, as it reflects a broader trend of acquiescence to genocide.
