Iran Criticizes US Actions Over Diplomacy Efforts

Tehran:Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has emphasized that Tehran evaluates the United States based on its actions rather than the tone of its correspondence. Baqaei accused the US of repeatedly undermining diplomatic efforts over the past two years, citing a recent letter from US Vice President JD Vance to Iran's Supreme National Security Council as an example.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei made these remarks during his weekly press conference in Tehran. He highlighted that while differences in the tone of correspondence are typical, what truly matters is the US government's conduct. He criticized Washington for failing to demonstrate diplomatic initiative and sabotaging potential diplomatic opportunities, mentioning the Islamabad memorandum of understanding as an example that was violated shortly after being signed.

Baqaei also discussed ongoing exchanges between Iran and the United States through mediators such as Qatar. He noted that Iran's demand for lifting sanctions and releasing frozen assets, which were agreed upon in the Islamabad understanding, remains crucial. He stressed that these steps are necessary to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

Furthermore, Baqaei addressed Iran’s proposal, which he described as the only genuine diplomatic initiative, still on the table for the US. He asserted that no agreement or security in the Strait of Hormuz could be achieved unless the US ends its naval blockade and meets Iran's demands. Baqaei also commented on contradictory US positions, citing them as evidence of confusion within the US leadership.

Finally, Baqaei reiterated Iran's stance on various issues, including its commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, rejection of antisemitism allegations, regional initiatives on Afghanistan, and opposition to Israel's Somaliland policy. He also affirmed Iran's strategic ties with neighboring countries, particularly Turkmenistan, as part of its neighborhood policy.
