The Hague:Iran's concerns over US non-compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention have remained unresolved for more than two decades, according to Tehran's ambassador to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Hadi Farajvand.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Farajvand addressed the 113th session of the OPCW Executive Council, emphasizing Iran's commitment to the convention while outlining alleged instances of US non-compliance. He highlighted Tehran's repeated but unanswered requests for clarification from Washington.
Farajvand expressed concerns about various US activities, including its documented role in the Israeli regime's chemical weapons program, support of Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq, and programs involving non-lethal and incapacitating chemical weapons. He asserted that Iran intends to pursue accountability from the United States.
He also condemned US and Israeli attacks on chemical, petrochemical, and fuel storage facilities in Iran during the 12-day and 40-day wars, labeling them as acts of chemical terrorism due to the risks posed to civilians and the environment. Some of these sites, he noted, are regularly inspected by the OPCW.
The 113th Executive Council session, being held from October 6 to 9, 2026, in The Hague, includes Iran as one of its 41 members. The session will continue through October 9, with Iran actively participating as a member of the executive body.
