Iran Declares Two French Diplomats Persona Non Grata

Tehran: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared two French diplomats working at the French Embassy in Tehran 'persona non grata.' According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the announcement late Monday, a couple of days after the Iranian Intelligence Ministry said the two French diplomats had participated in a secret meeting in Tehran in July with suspects in a major case involving foreign infiltration and interference. The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the activities of the French diplomats were in violation of international law, specifically the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. The ministry further emphasized that it declares the two French embassy staff persona non grata, prohibiting their entry into Iran. This decision comes in light of the fact that the French government has not taken any action to rectify their behavior and guarantee the non-recurrence of such conduct weeks after the disclosure of their illegal behavior.
