Iran FM Blasts US Asset Seizure Threat, Warns Trump of ‘Incendiary Precedent’

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi deplores US President Donald Trump over his latest rhetoric and threat of seizing Iran's assets, warning that the consequences of any such action will be neither pleasant nor peaceful, and could stir up chaos.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi emphasized the perilous implications of such a move in a message posted on his X platform on Friday morning. He criticized Trump's remarks made a day earlier, highlighting the dangerous precedent that would be set by seizing another nation's assets to pay for unrelated future claims. Araghchi's message served as a stark warning to those who might celebrate or profit from such actions, suggesting that the normalization of government confiscation could leave no one's assets safe and lead to ensuing chaos.

The foreign minister's strong rebuke was in response to Trump's rhetoric concerning the use of Iranian assets in the US to compensate for any damage to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. This rhetoric comes in the context of a war initiated by Trump himself, which Araghchi noted was in violation of international law and the UN Charter.

The escalation of US aggression against civilian facilities and infrastructure has led the Iranian Armed Forces to respond with drone and missile strikes. These strikes have targeted facilities and bases used by the US military in several West Asian countries, further fueling terrorism and insecurity in the region.
