Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has emphasized the significance of basing foreign policy on evidence rather than prejudgment. In a recent post on his X account, Araghchi highlighted how cognitive biases can influence judgments, using as an example a rumor about a meeting between an Iranian official and Elon Musk. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi pointed out that some individuals accepted this rumor without evidence and even went as far as confirming and analyzing it because they wished for the meeting to occur. He criticized those who, regardless of foreign policy decision-making processes, rushed to make accusations against the government, even after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a denial. Araghchi reiterated that foreign policy should be grounded in realism and evidence rather than prejudgment. The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of acknowledging events based on their occurrence, stating that if an event has not happened, it must be denied, rega rdless of personal interests or moral judgments. Araghchi warned against the policy of silence and ambiguity when dealing with issues initiated by the other side, describing it as a rookie mistake that serves the interests of the other party. The New York Times recently claimed that Elon Musk, a close adviser to President-elect Donald J. Trump, met with Iran's ambassador to the United Nations in New York. However, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei categorically denied reports of any such meeting between Musk and the Islamic Republic's ambassador to the UN.
