Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian has asserted that while sanctions undeniably impact Iran's economy, his administration is actively working on strategies to neutralize these sanctions, bolster economic resilience, and enhance the utilization of domestic capabilities.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during a meeting with university professors, economists, and academic experts, Pezeshkian emphasized the government's commitment to mitigating the effects of sanctions and regional tensions through sound economic management and structural reforms. He highlighted key decisions, including reforming the system for foreign currency allocation for essential goods, which has reportedly stabilized the supply of basic necessities and curbed issues such as rent-seeking and corruption.
Pezeshkian underscored the pivotal role of universities in increasing productivity, reducing poverty and unemployment, and improving health indicators. He advocated for a more significant role for universities in addressing local and regional challenges, beyond their educational and research duties, and mentioned plans to delegate more authority to these institutions while maintaining oversight of national policymaking.
The president also addressed energy-sector imbalances, assuring that the government is committed to preventing disruptions to daily life despite infrastructural challenges. Additionally, he highlighted the government's efforts to enhance relations with neighboring and regional countries, aiming to reduce disputes and foster cooperation.
On the topic of Iran's nuclear program, Pezeshkian dismissed Western accusations of pursuing nuclear weapons as a tactic to pressure Iran economically. He credited public vigilance and the efforts of the government and armed forces for thwarting these objectives. Pezeshkian concluded by reiterating Iran's reliance on domestic expertise, particularly from academics and young professionals, to navigate sanctions and external pressures effectively.
