Vienna: Representatives from Iran, China, and Russia have jointly criticized the United States and the European trio of Britain, France, and Germany, known as the E3, for advancing an anti-Tehran draft resolution at the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the statement, delivered by the Russian representative during the Board of Governors meeting, labeled the anti-Iran proposal as political and unconstructive. It urged member nations to consider the draft's implications carefully and to refrain from endorsing it. The trio argued that the resolution, ostensibly in support of the IAEA director-general, primarily seeks to increase pressure on Iran and destabilize the West Asian region.

Iran, China, and Russia warned that the US-E3 initiative could weaken cooperation between the IAEA and Tehran and endanger ongoing diplomatic efforts for regional peace. They noted that the IAEA chief's report did not recommend any action by the Board, rendering the proposed draft resolution premature and politically motivated.

The joint statement dismissed the agenda concerning the 'implementation of the Safeguards Agreement and related provisions of the Security Council resolutions on Iran.' It argued that all provisions of Resolution 2231 expired on October 18, 2025, nullifying attempts by the E3 to trigger the 'snapback' mechanism.

The trio also opposed misleading member states regarding Iran's nuclear program, including the IAEA chief's reports. They reiterated Iran's commitment to nuclear non-proliferation as a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and emphasized the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Further, the statement highlighted that repeated attacks on Iran's safeguarded nuclear facilities, along with threats of aggression, have undermined the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and created an unprecedented situation for the Agency. The statement concluded by advocating for a lasting resolution through an immediate cessation of attacks, elimination of aggression threats, and adherence to member states' inherent rights.
