Tehran: Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has emphasized the significance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other international forums that promote multilateral cooperation. He stated that the Islamic Republic attaches substantial importance to these platforms as they aim to strengthen multilateral mechanisms.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei expressed these views in a post on his X account during his visit to Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, for the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the SCO Member States. He highlighted the critical role of genuine multilateralism, especially in an era where unilateral actions, violations of international agreements, and unlawful force undermine the principles of the rule of law and the UN Charter-based legal order. This was a reference to recent instances of US-Israeli military actions that challenge international law.

Baqaei accompanies Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is attending the SCO meeting in Kyrgyzstan. This gathering marks the 25th anniversary of the organization's founding, under the theme '25 Years of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity,' which commenced on Friday.
