Vienna: Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, has issued a statement regarding Iran’s draft resolution at the ongoing International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna which is aimed at prohibiting attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a message posted on his X account on Tuesday, Baqaei highlighted Iran’s initiative, which is supported by China, Nicaragua, Russia, Venezuela, and Belarus, to safeguard the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

He pointed out that the draft resolution emphasizes that all nations possess an ‘inalienable right to utilize nuclear energy for peaceful purposes’ and are entitled to ‘effective guarantees against any attack or threat of attack.’

Baqaei stressed that the draft explicitly calls on all countries to refrain from attacking or threatening peaceful nuclear facilities in other nations.

He underscored the importance of respecting these principles, urging the international community to take decisive action to prevent the normalization of blatant violations of international law.

This initiative comes amid heightened concerns over the security of nuclear installations worldwide, following US-Israeli aggression against Iranian nuclear sites in June. The draft resolution aims to foster a collective international stance against any form of military aggression targeting nuclear sites.
