Iran Judiciary Chief Condemns US Assault on Vessel as ‘War Crime’

Tehran: Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei has condemned the US attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Sea of Oman, labeling it a 'clear instance of a war crime' and a breach of the Iran-US ceasefire.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during a meeting with provincial judicial officials on Tuesday, Mohseni Ejei criticized US actions, asserting that claims of a maritime blockade on Iran and measures targeting Iranian ports and coastlines amount to aggressive acts. He stated that the US's actions violate the ceasefire and constitute a war crime, emphasizing that Iran will respond to such provocations.

Mohseni Ejei commended Judiciary personnel for maintaining operations despite damage to facilities during what he referred to as the 'third imposed war.' He noted that officials ensured uninterrupted legal and judicial services for citizens, even amidst conflict.

The Judiciary Chief detailed measures taken during the US-Israeli conflict, such as allowing citizens to pursue legal cases in other cities and implementing electronic notifications and case tracking. He also mentioned that cases involving anti-security elements and individuals cooperating with 'the aggressor enemy' are being processed 'with speed and accuracy.'

Emphasizing the need for decisive action within the law, Mohseni Ejei asserted that penalties, ranging from property confiscation to capital punishment, would be enforced without leniency once charges are substantiated.

The backdrop of these statements is the unprovoked war initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, which included the assassination of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and several top Iranian military commanders.
