Iran Launches Initiative to Equip 12,000 Schools with Solar Power Plants

Tehran:Iran is set to equip 12,000 schools across the country with solar power plants as part of a new renewable energy initiative. The necessary equipment for the project has already been dispatched to various provinces, according to an official statement.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Jafar Mohammadnejad Sigaroudi, the deputy for investment and development at the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), announced the ambitious plan on Wednesday. The initiative aims to complete the installations within 45 days, prioritizing local contractors who meet the required qualifications.

The official highlighted a significant increase in Iran's renewable energy capacity, which has surged from approximately 1,250 megawatts at the beginning of the current administration to over 6,300 megawatts. This development has occurred despite facing sanctions and other limitations.

In Kurdistan Province alone, 406 schools have been earmarked for participation in the solar power project. Construction has already commenced at 32 of these schools. Sigaroudi emphasized that the solar power capacity in the province has risen from 16 megawatts in March 2025 to over 25 megawatts, with an objective to achieve at least 40 megawatts by March 2027.
