Iran Offers Humanitarian Aid to Indonesia After Deadly Sumatra Floods and Landslides

Tehran: Iran has extended a hand of support to Indonesia in the wake of devastating floods and landslides that have claimed numerous lives on Sumatra island. President Masoud Pezeshkian conveyed his condolences to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, expressing sorrow over the casualties and offering Tehran’s readiness to assist those affected by the disaster.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, President Pezeshkian, in his message to President Subianto, expressed his grief over the loss of life and injuries sustained by residents in the predominantly Muslim region. He conveyed, “On behalf of the government and people of Iran, I extend my condolences to Your Excellency and the people of Indonesia,” while also offering prayers for the victims and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.

President Pezeshkian affirmed Iran’s preparedness to provide “humanitarian and relief assistance” to the impacted areas, expressing hope for a rapid resolution to the challenges posed by the natural calamity. The disaster has resulted in at least 442 fatalities, with hundreds more missing following days of relentless rainfall that led to severe flooding and landslides across Sumatra, as per Indonesian reports.
