Iran, Japan Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Issues

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, have engaged in a discussion covering the latest bilateral developments and international matters. During a telephone conversation, Araghchi extended congratulations to Motegi on his reappointment as Japan’s Foreign Minister.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian diplomat expressed hope for continued close, creative, and effective cooperation, leveraging Motegi’s prior experience and the history of constructive relations during his previous tenure. The conversation included a review of developments related to Iran’s nuclear program and actions by the US and three European countries. Araghchi reiterated that it is the United States that needs to return to diplomacy to earn Iran’s trust.

Motegi, in response, highlighted Tokyo’s commitment to contributing to peace and stability in the West Asia region. He welcomed political initiatives to address regional and international issues and reaffirmed Japan’s support for political solutions.

The dialogue also included a review of the current status of bilateral cooperation, consular matters, and humanitarian issues between Iran and Japan. Both ministers underscored the importance of continued regular consultations and dialogue to strengthen the friendly relations between their nations.
