Iran Open to Conditional Talks with U.S., Senior Adviser States

Tehran: A senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has stated that Iran is open to negotiations with the United States if the talks are conducted without preconditions and respect Iran’s red lines, including its uranium enrichment rights.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser on international affairs to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, expressed this stance during a meeting with Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran. Velayati emphasized Iran’s willingness to engage in talks that do not demand the abandonment of its right to enrich uranium, a key point of contention. He asserted that conditional talks requiring Iran to halt enrichment would be unacceptable.

The meeting also highlighted Iran-Pakistan relations, which Velayati described as “deep, historic, and brotherly.” Both sides expressed satisfaction with the strengthening bilateral ties and discussed the potential for enhanced cooperation. Messages from Pakistan’s prime minister and army chief were also conveyed to the Leader during the meeting.

Regional issues were also on the agenda, with Velayati condemning Israel’s actions against Iran and its activities in Gaza, and criticizing the United States for supporting these actions. He called for unified efforts among Islamic countries in response to these developments. Naqvi echoed these sentiments, voicing Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran’s position and denouncing the attacks.

The discussions also covered trilateral cooperation with Iraq, particularly in facilitating the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage. Velayati highlighted the importance of Pakistani pilgrims traveling through Iran to Iraq, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among the three nations.
