Iran-Pakistan Border Trade Remains Key to Bilateral Relations Ambassador

Tehran:Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, has emphasized the significance of border trade between Iran and Pakistan, describing it as a crucial component of high-level bilateral agreements that benefit both nations.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Amiri-Moghaddam addressed reports about the closure of shared borders, underscoring that any disruptions are not logical nor beneficial for either country. The ambassador clarified that Iran has not imposed restrictions on exporting goods, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), to Pakistan, and noted that Iran's borders with its neighboring countries remain open.

Amiri-Moghaddam highlighted issues faced by traders due to the 'E-Form' procedure implemented by Pakistan for imports from Iran. He mentioned that discussions are ongoing to resolve these challenges. He also acknowledged reports of several hundred tankers carrying LPG crossing the Gabd-Rimdan border into Pakistan, but noted that the tankers have not yet been unloaded, complicating the trade flow.

The ambassador reiterated Iran's commitment to facilitating and enhancing cross-border trade, which is in the mutual interest of both countries. He stated that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with Pakistani counterparts, to address existing issues, improve the movement of goods, and strengthen economic cooperation.

Meanwhile, reports from Pakistani media indicate that operations at the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing have resumed, restoring the flow of commercial transport on both sides of the border.
