Tehran: The head of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Chamber says the chamber is negotiating to remove trade barriers following Pakistan's recent increase in tariffs on some Iranian exports. Abdolhakim Rigi-Mirjaveh said on Monday that the exact affected products and the new tariff rates need clarification, noting that preferential trade agreements cover some goods. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Rigi-Mirjaveh warned that higher tariffs could raise export costs and reduce the competitiveness of Iranian goods in Pakistan. He emphasized that the chamber is actively pursuing a free trade agreement, which he believes could significantly reduce tariff barriers and provide a more transparent and predictable trading environment. Rigi-Mirjaveh also called for the swift resolution of the situation involving trucks stranded at the Pishin border, stressing that the tariff hike does not constitute a trade ban.
