Iran, Pakistan Focus on Activating Border Markets During High-Level Talks

Tehran: First Vice President Mohammadreza Aref has emphasized the importance of activating the Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission and said that agreements regarding border markets between the two countries must be enacted. Aref met with Pakistan’s Minister of Commerce and Trade, Jam Kamal Khan, in Tehran to discuss cooperation between the two countries.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during their meeting, Aref highlighted the long-standing relations and shared historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two countries that have formed a solid foundation for enhanced collaboration across various sectors. He emphasized that Iran is fully prepared to strengthen cooperation with Pakistan in all areas, including economic, trade, scientific, cultural, and other fields of mutual interest.

Aref stressed the shared perspectives of both countries on political, regional, and international issues, adding that any minor differences can be resolved through negotiation. He noted that both Iran and Pakistan hold common views on the Palestinian issue and have condemned the brutal attacks by the Israeli regime on the Palestinian people.

The vice president also underlined the importance of strengthening regional cooperation between Iran and Pakistan through frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). He expressed Iran’s readiness to collaborate on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and quantum technology, which are vital for improving the welfare of the people.

Additionally, Aref highlighted the potential of tourism in enhancing bilateral relations, stressing that economic exchanges between the two countries must be improved. He suggested that part of these exchanges could be conducted through barter trade.

For his part, Jam Kamal Khan referred to constructive talks with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, emphasizing the need to activate the Joint Economic Commission between the two countries. Khan noted that there is significant potential in both countries to increase the level of economic exchanges.
