Tianjin: President Masoud Pezeshkian presented initiatives at the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Heads of State Summit and the SCO Plus Summit, Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy for Legal and International Affairs at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi said proposals included establishment of a peace-building committee composed of foreign ministers of SCO member states to address crises that threaten peace and security. He said the president introduced an accounts and settlements initiative to bolster financial cooperation among members and reduce the impact of illegal sanctions.
Gharibabadi said at the SCO Plus meeting Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s geographical advantages for joining the Belt and Road Initiative and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peaceful diplomatic solutions regarding its nuclear program. He also said the president praised China’s global governance initiative as a step toward a fairer world.
the summit produced more than 20 agreements across multiple areas, including the establishment of a center for security challenges and cooperation and agreements on cooperation in artificial intelligence and energy. Gharibabadi said the final statement condemned the June military aggression against Iran by the Israeli regime and the US, affirmed the necessity of protecting Iran’s nuclear facilities and called for upholding international law.
Gharibabadi said during his stay in China Pezeshkian held discussions with officials from China, Russia, Pakistan, Turkey, Tajikistan and with the UN secretary-general, and stressed collaboration to address regional challenges and to enhance bilateral relations.
