Iran Reaffirms Longstanding Support for Palestinian Self-Determination

Tehran:Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, emphasized on Tuesday that Iran's commitment to the Palestinian people's right to self-determination has remained consistent since 1947.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei highlighted that any violations of self-determination, land usurpation, or genocide undermine global norms and sustainability. Speaking at a national conference on the Palestinian issue, he rejected the notion that Iran's stance is merely ideological, explaining that it is deeply rooted in Iran's civilizational identity and its historical opposition to oppression and injustice.

Baqaei asserted that Palestinians should be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination without foreign interference. He emphasized that all governments have a legal obligation to support this fundamental right. He further noted that countries supporting Palestinian rights are fulfilling their international legal obligations, while those opposing them are breaching human rights and international principles.

The spokesperson criticized the international community's inaction regarding the ongoing genocide in Palestinian territories and noted the obstacles faced by international judicial bodies in holding Israeli officials accountable. Baqaei concluded that the Palestinian issue transcends political calculations and is fundamentally a humanitarian concern, which the Iranian nation refuses to accept in terms of displacement, aggression, and genocide.
