New york: Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, has rejected the allegations made by the US representative against Iran regarding Yemen during a UN Security Council meeting.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres and the president of the UN Security Council, Darzi dismissed the claims as baseless and unsubstantiated. He refuted the allegations that Iran is destabilizing Yemen and that Iranian flights to Sana'a were used for military purposes, in violation of Security Council resolution 2216 (2015). Darzi labeled these claims as unfounded and a deliberate attempt by the United States to mislead the Security Council and deflect attention from its own actions in Yemen.

Darzi emphasized that Iran's flights to Sana'a have been of a humanitarian nature, countering the severe restrictions and blockade that have devastated Yemen. He pointed out that since 2016, millions of Yemenis have been deprived of essential services, including medical treatment and humanitarian assistance, due to the prolonged closure of Sana'a International Airport.

The letter further criticized the United States for its role in the conflict in Yemen, asserting that for nearly a decade, the Yemeni people have suffered due to actions supported politically and militarily by the US. Darzi accused the United States of undermining the political process in Yemen and violating Yemen's sovereignty through military actions.

Darzi highlighted Iran's commitment to supporting a peaceful, inclusive, and Yemeni-led political process under UN auspices. He stressed that lasting peace in Yemen cannot be achieved through military means or exclusion of relevant parties and called for genuine international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis and lift the blockade on Yemen.

He concluded by urging the Security Council to focus on addressing the humanitarian suffering in Yemen and to support a genuine peace process led by Yemenis.
