Iran Relays Response to Trump’s Letter via Oman

Tehran: Iran has relayed its response to a letter by U.S. President Donald Trump through Oman, as confirmed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. The official communication outlines Iran's stance on the current situation and Trump's letter.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araqchi mentioned that the response was sent through the appropriate channel, emphasizing Iran's decision to engage only in indirect negotiations while subjected to 'maximum pressure' and military threats. This stance follows Trump's letter, delivered by an emissary from the United Arab Emirates on March 12, in which he proposed opening negotiations for a new deal after withdrawing the U.S. from a previous agreement in 2018.

Araqchi reiterated that Iran's indirect negotiations continue, especially with the three European countries-France, Germany, and Britain-serving as intermediaries for discussions involving the U.S. He emphasized that Iran's current approach is tactical, allowing for indirect talks under the existing conditions.

Despite Trump's memorandum to restore 'maximum pressure' on Iran, signed on February 4, the Iranian leadership remains firm in its decision not to enter direct talks with the U.S. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has expressed distrust in the U.S.'s adherence to any agreements, further solidifying Iran's cautious diplomatic strategy.
